Small Portable Focused Ultrasound System

Please update the main blurb text to the following:

The RK-20 is a portable focused ultrasound system that integrates into a standard stereotactic frame. A single-element focused ultrasound transducer can be positioned to deliver energy to precise brain regions using stereotactic localization. The system comes with an optional hydrophone and digital receive electronics to monitor acoustic emissions from the brain. A compact RF generator can be controlled from any standard computer via USB using a graphical software interface.

The stereotactic frame pictured here is not included.

Customized acoustic exposures can be delivered from the transducer including continuous waves, bursts, and gated bursts studies.

The RK-20 is used for investigations ranging from tissue ablation to increasing the permeability of the blood-brain barrier and neuromodulation. It is a versatile, cost-effective platform that serves as an entry-point for neuroscience groups to explore the potential of focused ultrasound to augment research programs or open up new avenues for research.

Key Features

  • Portable: The compact size of the RK-20 makes it amenable for use in tight lab spaces. It can be easily transported to remote study locations in a single box.
  • Multiple Modes: The RK-20 can be used for a wide range of acoustic studies including continuous wave heating, pulsed exposures for BBB opening, sonodynamic therapy, and neuromodulation.
  • Customizable: The RK-20 can be integrated into an existing stereotactic frame, or can be configured with a frame from FUS Instruments, making it a cost-effective and adaptable solution for any laboratory.
  • Calibrated: Every RK-20 transducer is calibrated in water using a needle hydrophone and radiation force balance to provide quantitative acoustic output, eliminating the need for a laboratory to perform resource-intensive calibration before getting started with experiments.
  • Cavitation monitoring: With an optional hydrophone and digital oscilloscope, the RK-20 enables on-line acoustic cavitation monitoring at 10-20% of the cost of other systems offering it.
  • Future-proof: The RK-20 can be upgraded into the flagship RK-50 FUS system from FUS Instruments, stretching the initial investment and saving precious research funds.

In-House Custom-Built Calibrated Transducers (TX-50)

When your research demands a unique approach, our engineering team is ready to build it.

All transducers manufactured by FUS Instruments undergo rigorous calibration and testing. Transducers are leak tested and impedance matched. They then undergo calibration at the focus in water with a calibrated needle hydrophone to measure the spatial dimensions of the pressure focus, and also to calibrate the voltage to pressure relationship. Radiation force measurements are obtained for each transducer to quantify the transducer efficiency.

Centrally located hydrophones enable passive cavitation detection.

An RF impedance matching network to 50 Ohm is supplied with each transducer and tuned to the fundamental resonant frequency. An optional third harmonic RF impedance matching network allows operation around three (3) times the fundamental frequency. The matching networks include BNC and SMA connectors in an aluminum, RF shielded enclosure.
